When is it Time for an ERP Software Replacement?

ERP Software Replacement

ERP systems are an inherently difficult thing to handle, as they not only track financial activity in a company, but they also handle resource management and a plethora of other tasks as well. That’s why many organizations spend a long time picking an ERP system that works for them, because if you choose the wrong one you may hinder your business instead of helping it.

The right piece of ERP software can save your company massive amounts of time and makes business processes an easy process to handle. At Third Stage Consulting we’ve put together a list of things that businesses should be aware of to know when it’s time to upgrade your system. Hopefully these tips are helpful to you!

Your current system can’t keep up

When your business is growing up quickly, it makes sense that your current software may struggle to keep up with the extra workload. If your system becomes inflexible or hard to use you should begin your search for a new ERP system. A current ERP system would be able to easily automate tasks and processes that are slowing your company down and provide services that constantly move your company forward in your processes. Evaluating

Microsoft Dynamics 365 vs. NetSuite and other ERP systems can help automate your business processes.

Employees are more mobile

More and more of modern society’s workforce does work on the road. Whether it’s with a mobile device, laptops, etc. it’s important to understand where your employees do their work. Cloud ERP systems offer the capability for your workers to be able to spend their time working while being on the road. If your current ERP system doesn’t support your workers unless they are in your office, it may be time to change systems. Upgrading to a Cloud ERP system extends your organizations reach far beyond your office. It allows you to connect with the growing workforce around the world as well.

Overreliance on Excel

Nobody likes an almost endless spreadsheet to comb through for specific data. When your business over relies on spreadsheets and you spend the majority of your time trying to gather data for reporting its time to think about upgrading your systems. Any time your system of gather and reporting data presents an obstacle to the efficiency of your business process it may be time to rethink something about the system as a whole.

Take for example, if your company only uses Excel to manage inventory, finances, etc. it may be time to switch to a Microsoft Dynamics 365 ERP system or any one of the top ERP systems to improve productivity. Any of these ERP systems can be customized to fit your specific business needs so that you can be efficient in sales, procurement, etc.

At the end of the day a lot of these indicators of when you should replace your ERP system all revolve around one point: if your current system is slowing your company down, something needs to change. Obviously if you can save yourself money and time by adjusting your current system slightly, that is a valid solution to take.

However, if it is actually costing your company large amounts of money and time and hinders your ability to produce even the simplest of results then an upgrade would be the best investment/ solution to take. As always if you do have any more concerns or questions about whether or not your company needs an ERP system upgrade, we at Third Stage Consulting will always be available to help you and your organization’s needs.
