If Software Vendors Were Dog Breeds

software

In celebration of National Dog Day here in the US, I thought we’d put a fun spin on our Friday blog and compare software vendors to dog breeds.

Whether you’re a fan of small, cuddly breeds or big, powerful ones, there’s definitely a software vendor out there that reminds us of our furry friends. So without further ado, here are some of our favorites:

1. Labrador Retriever – Epicor

Epicor is a versatile and reliable software vendor, just like the Labrador Retriever. They’re known for their customer service and support, always being there when you need them. And just like Labs, Epicor is always eager to please with their innovative solutions, manufacturing and distribution space.

2. The Poodle – Infor

Infor is another software vendor that is known for its customer service and support. But they also share the Poodle’s love of fashion and style. Infor is always ahead of the curve when it comes to design, whether it’s in their software or their marketing materials. Infor Cloud Suite is robust, and wide variety of business processes and capabilities just like the poodle. Their capabilities can benefit different situations, especially organizations that are in manufacturing and distribution, but we also see Infor being used successfully by non-manufacturing organizations as well.

3. The Beagle- Microsoft

This one is a bit of a stretch, but hear me out. Beagles are known for their tracking abilities, and Microsoft is known for… well, tracking everything. With Windows 10, Microsoft has been collecting data on users’ activities and habits, just like a Beagle would track a scent. They are also very versatile like a Beagle, with products that can be used for a variety of purposes. Beagles are a very trusted and get along with other animals, just like D365’s sophisticated integrations.

4. The Bulldog – Oracle NetSuite

Oracle is a powerful and popular software vendor, just like the Bulldog. They are also known for being tenacious and stubborn, never giving up on a goal. And like Bulldogs, Oracle can be a bit intimidating at first, but they’re really just big softies at heart. Oracle NetSuite are that it’s one of the pioneer software-as-a-service types of solutions. It’s been in the cloud for 20 years now. It’s really a big player and it’s one of the most comprehensive suites out there. However, because Oracle has been in the business for so long, they tend to be very expensive and their pricing model is quite complex.

5. The Rottweiler – SAP S/4HANA

SAP is another big, powerful software vendor, and like the Rottweiler, they are loyal and protective of their customers. They are also known for being a bit aggressive in their marketing, just like a Rottweiler. But at the end of the day, they just want to be loved and appreciated. S/4HANA is very strong in financials, inventory management, basic ERP functionality, etc. It’s really one of the best when it comes to financial flexibility, GL capabilities, and product costing. Much like the obedient Rottweiler, this system is great for large, complex organization that require a lot of standardization.

6. The Yorkshire TerrierIFS

IFS is a small but mighty software vendor, just like the Yorkshire Terrier. Much like small dogs, IFS is very focused solution. And just like Yorkies, IFS is always eager to please with their innovative solutions. It’s not trying to be everything to everyone, and it tends to focus on industrial, manufacturing, and distribution types of companies. If you’re a company that has a lot of project management, asset management, or maintenance and repair types of functions, IFS is a very good fit.

7. The Bloodhound – Odoo

Odoo is a software vendor that is known for its flexibility and versatility, just like the Bloodhound. They are always on the lookout for new and innovative ways to help their customers, and they never give up on a goal. Odoo as a newer play to top tier ERP solution and is also a bit of a mystery, just like the Bloodhound. But at the end of the day, they just want to be loved and appreciated. Trumpet the Bloodhound won the Best in Show at the 2022 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, becoming the first dog of his breed to ever be granted the title. Will Odoo but next Best in Show in the business technology space?

8. The Golden Retriever – Acumatica

Acumatica is a popular software vendor that is known for its customer service and support. But they also share the Golden Retriever’s energy and they have emerged as an up-and-coming player is largely because they’ve defined a very clear niche in the marketplace. They tend to focus on manufacturing distribution organizations. Acumatica is always ready to help you with your business needs, but they’re also happy to just kick back and enjoy the ride.

We hope you enjoyed our light-hearted look at software vendors and dog breeds. And if you’re in the market for new software, be sure to check out our vendor comparisons to find the perfect fit for your business.
